Cano a fit with Cubs?
- With the departure of Chicago Cubs second baseman, Anthony Rendon, the Cubs are now looking for a second baseman to fill a roster spot. It has been rumored by rival executives that the Cubs front office has been meeting with marquee second baseman Robinson Cano. Reporters got the chance to talk to Cano earlier today and this is what he said, "I like to get paid, I also like to play ball. I won't balk at the chance to sign a more lucrative deal." Sources say that the Cubs would pay up to 22M per year. It's speculated a deal worth 90M would lock him up. His speculated contract would be worth 18M over five years, with various clauses, bonuses, and possibly option years. General Manager Troy Cavell was unavailable for comment.
- The Los Angeles Angels have been active in adding star power to their lineup. The most recent reports out of the front office is they are nearing the completion of a few trades. One is going to bring a pair of outfielders to LA, while the other seems a bit more intriguing. It's said to involve Matt Moore and Clayton Kershaw, but another NL West GM was heard saying Matt Moore is in no way going to be traded. Kershaw was dealt to the Angels earlier in the offseason, but after outfield prospect Randal Grichuk failed a physical, the trade collapsed, and traction has yet to regain.
- The Dodgers are also in the mix for finding a young shortstop. Clayton Meder of The Bigs thinks the Dodgers could be players in signing Stephen Drew. Although it appears they may have to find a shortshop via the trade market. Hanley's defense won't cut it, and he will most likely man the hot corner for Dodgers.
